Love Song drabble
In the last week or so, I've watched all of season 1 of Due South. I miss Ray K. I miss Fraser Sr., and cherished his rare appearances. 4 or 5 episodes made me insanely happy, and the rest were, well, okay. But the ones that made me insanely happy were worth it, and soon I'll begin season 2. Meanwhile I've been having fun with the It's a Small Casting World game, having spotted the actress who played Rebecca on Sports Night, the actor who was Buffy's rebound boyfriend in season 3 of BtVS, a young Mark Ruffalo (who looked surprisingly like a young Marlon Brando), and a VERY young Ryan Phillippe.
But that's not actually what I'm posting about, because having FINALLY finished the Character Meme with a long-overdue three things about Clark for
isilweth, I'm now thinking all kinds of SV thoughts again, and am feeling like a big slacker for not having done any more of my Love Songs for such a long time. So here's a drabble: 100 words, harking back to season one.
Love Song #8: The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side
I’ve got wheels
and you want to go for a ride
- The Magnetic Fields
For hanging out, Clark has Pete. For solving mysteries, he calls Chloe. He’s got Lana to worship, his parents to love him, and the whole population of Smallville to save.
Only Lex gets the glory that is Clark Kent sprawled over the passenger seat of his Ferrari: top down, sun in his face, wind in his hair, and an expression of pure bliss.
It is worth every cent Lex paid for the car to hear Clark purr as they do 140 down a Kansas two-lane. He pushes the pedal to the floor and drinks in Clark’s pleasure, going faster, faster.

Music-wise, this is among my favorite of all the songs on the album, and you can hear it over here -- Disk 1, track 8 -- thanks to
disprove. As always, the music belongs to Magnetic Fields and the characters belong to mighty and powerful corporations that make money off them, unlike me.

Certainly a VERY good reason to buy a Ferrari. ;)

I think the problem with watching DS out of order is that it's like eating your favorite dessert first, and then having to eat your vegetables. Nothing can be slashier than season 3, and Ray V just isn't as drop dead gorgeous as CKR (though I personally think he has amazingly beautiful eyes). On the other hand, the Fraser characterization is, I think, more interesting--and I forget whether Victoria is season 1 or 2, but that's one of the strongest arcs of the series. I also really love Thatcher in season 2--she and Fraser have this amazing vibe, and the episode about the mounties and horses on the train is just about my favorite hour of television ever.

And I'm inclined to agree with everything you've said, re DS. By far the thing I'm most enjoying about season one is getting to know more about Fraser, and seeing his character unfold. The Victoria arc is what ends season 1, and it knocked me flat -- those would be among the episodes that made me insanely happy. (Also, that moment when they're in bed and he takes her fingers into his mouth is among the hottest and most intimate things I've ever seen on tv.) Gorgeousness aside, I just don't find Ray V. as interesting a character as Ray K., plus it was the slashiness of season 3 that really made me love the show. And then, too -- to put gorgeousness back in the middle of the picture -- I found myself crushing on CKR in a big way. So I'm looking forward to getting back to season 3, which I've still only seen half of. But having acquired the whole series, I promised myself I would watch it in order, instead of just gobbling up all of season 3 right away.
