...and interestingly, it wasn't the one that got the most votes.

For those who were wondering, #3 on my Six Things list (about training to be an actress, and why I gave it up) was actually true. All through my teens I wanted nothing more than to be an actress. I studied and trained pretty seriously for 6 years, and even considered going to a theater conservatory instead of a regular university when I finished high school. (My parents talked me out of that one, and I'm glad they did.) I also had eating disorders ranging from mild to severe during most of those 6 years, and eventually I realized that constantly stressing over whether I was skinny enough and pretty enough to make it in my chosen profession was not going to lead me to a happy life. There were other factors going into why I gave it up, but this was a huge part of it, and I have to say that as much as I loved being on stage, I've never regretted the decision. In the years since, I've come to understand a lot of other ways in which acting was unhealthy for me. Being trained to convincingly simulate emotions you don't honestly feel, for example, is the kind of thing that can get a person into trouble if she isn't careful.

The lie was, as [livejournal.com profile] allzugern guessed, #2. I am not synaesthetic, though I've always wished I were. I realize that it is, technically, a neurological disorder, but it just sounds so fascinating!
