1. I'm home. Vacation was generally lovely, though I could have used more time with just my husband and less time with extended family. Still, it was nice being in tropical places for a while.

2. I'd been feeling a general lack of interest in Smallville for a long while there, enough so that I wondered if the bloom was off that rose. I think the last episode I saw was Freak, and I haven't even bothered to download the ones since. But yesterday I watched a preview for the end-of-season episodes (whatever the CW has in its video section, that various folks have linked to) and suddenly I'm excited about seeing it again. I'll need to catch up on what I've missed. If any of y'all can recommend good recent fics or chewy meta to get me more in the mood again, I'd be grateful.

3. While we were away, the husband and I wandered into a comics/anime store and browsed a while. I found a graphic novel that looks like it was written specifically for me: it's a new(ish) Neil Gaiman book called Marvel 1602, in which he takes all the stock Marvel characters (Spiderman, the X-Men, etc.) and puts them in a story set in Elizabethan England. My oldest geekdom (Tudor England) and my newest geekdom (comics) collide! I'm very psyched about reading this, though am being virtuous and finishing the highbrow literary novels I'd started on first.

4. Also in that comics store, I got totally hit on. It was awesome. This kinda cute, very geeky guy, who was obviously thrilled to see a real live girl looking at comics, came and chatted me up while I was browsing through the back issues. It's the first time I've ever heard "So, do you collect anything?" used as a pick-up line. I was so tickled by this (attempted pick-ups are not a common occurrence for me) that I had to rush and tell my husband about it, which probably wasn't the suavest thing to do, but oh well. It's nice to know that in the world of comics fans, I qualify as a babe.

5. Did I ever mention that I finished watching Buffy? I finished watching Buffy. Seasons 6 and 7 are really kind of disappointing after all the fantasticness that came before. Happily, I'm also watching along with [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel, and she's now in early season 5, so I'm getting to relive those episodes (saw a few last night). Has anybody been reading Whedon's new Buffy comic (the "unfilmed eighth season")? I'm very curious about that, but haven't seen any of it yet. I gather the two issues so far are both sold out; I'll probably just wait for it to be finished and get it as a graphic novel.
