A lot going on lately, and I've been all but ignoring LJ. I skim once in a while and it seems like SV fandom as a whole has gone fishin'. Well, it's that time of year, I guess.

As for me, I've been soaking up more Due South, but at the moment I'm all excited about planned expeditions to various arts events. I'm about to head to NYC; my mother, bizarrely enough, has gotten her hands on tickets to the NY premiere of the new Harry Potter movie, so I'm going with her. That's on Monday. Sunday I'm having lunch with an old friend and then heading to the Metropolitan Museum to see a costume exhibit of clothes by Paul Poiret from the 1910s through 1930s. This is kind of dorky of me, but as a kid I had a set of paper dolls with outfits based on his designs, that I absolutely loved. He was very avant garde for his day, and was among the first to design clothes for women that were meant to be worn without corsets -- but before you laud him as an early feminist, note that he also invented the hobble skirt -- so I'm pretty jazzed to see his clothes in the, er, fabric.

And in a couple weeks, I have tickets to see Crowded House in concert, which is a thrill since I've loved their music since I was, oh, 14. And I've just read a review of a new film of Macbeth that sounds fantastic, which I'm thinking I may try to see while I'm in NY, as I don't expect it will make it to my hometown anytime soon. In other Shakespeare news, I bought tickets this morning to see a performance of Antony & Cleopatra next month. I'm especially excited about this, as I've read most of Shakespeare's plays and this one is my favorite, but I've never seen it staged. Amusingly, it's being put on by this big summer Shakespeare festival in my area, and at their website I noticed that their season opened with A Midsummer Night's Dream, and that the actress playing Cleopatra is someone I've never seen but have heard spoken of as an amazing actress, and the closest thing this region has to a diva. So of course I'm now picturing Ellen from Slings & Arrows, and the whole New Burbage scene. (Presumably the month between now and the show will allow me to get this image out of my head.)

As an added bonus, after deciding that it was okay to splurge on these tickets because it's a play I've always wanted to see, I discovered that I could get them for half-price just because I live in the area. (There are a lot of summer arts festivals around here, and they market heavily to tourists; I hadn't known they offered such a huge discount for locals.) I win at life! \o/
